Our Year 5 and 6 children are taught in Peacock Class by Miss Lewis. On a Monday afternoon, they are taught Art and DT by Miss Bevan and PE by Miss Wing.

In science our topic is 'Living Things and their Habitats' where we will spend some time learning about the amazing work of David Attenborough.

Programming- February 2023

Peacock class have really enjoyed our unit of programming work, During Spring term 1 we created lots of different games using different variables.

Halloween – October 2022

We had a great ‘Spooky Spectacular’ day! It was lovely for the children to bring their grown-ups in to school in the morning to see their classroom and books as well as joining us for a special ‘Wakey Shakey’! 

It was great fun to see everyone’s fantastic costumes as well as all of the brilliant pumpkins for our competition. The disco was a super end to the busy day! Thank you to all the parents and carers for your support.  

Derby Cathedral – The Gaia Installation – October 2022

We really enjoyed our visit to Derby Cathedral to see the Gaia artwork. The children enjoyed the opportunity to learn about Derby Cathedral and see the fantastic art installation. We also completed a ‘scavenger hunt’ to help us identify many of the cathedral’s features.

 

Maths – Place Value Counters – September 2022

To consolidate and deepen our understanding of the formal written methods for addition and subtraction, Peacock Class used place value counters to model the steps in solving the calculations.

  

 

Introduction to World War I – Chronology – September 2022

To begin our new unit of work, Peacock Class will be recapping key historical events and periods which they have studied previously to help them place World War I on a timeline. This will help to develop our understanding of chronology and talk about events which came before and after.
