Our Year 5 and 6 children are taught in Peacock Class by Mrs Cooke. Miss Matich teaches the class on a Tuesday morning when Mrs Cooke is out of class.

Previous learning

Our school theme for the autumn term is called ‘Remember When…’ Each class will be learning about historical events from the past and units of work are linked to this theme wherever appropriate. Our first unit of work in the Peacock Class is ‘World War I’.

In Autumn 2, we will be learning all about ‘World War II’.

Our Class Updates

Halloween – October 2022

We had a great ‘Spooky Spectacular’ day! It was lovely for the children to bring their grown-ups in to school in the morning to see their classroom and books as well as joining us for a special ‘Wakey Shakey’!

It was great fun to see everyone’s fantastic costumes as well as all of the brilliant pumpkins for our competition. The disco was a super end to the busy day! Thank you to all the parents and carers for your support.

Derby Cathedral – The Gaia Installation – October 2022

We really enjoyed our visit to Derby Cathedral to see the Gaia artwork. The children enjoyed the opportunity to learn about Derby Cathedral and see the fantastic art installation. We also completed a ‘scavenger hunt’ to help us identify many of the cathedral’s features.

Maths – Place Value Counters – September 2022

To consolidate and deepen our understanding of the formal written methods for addition and subtraction, Peacock Class used place value counters to model the steps in solving the calculations.

Introduction to World War I – Chronology – September 2022

To begin our new unit of work, Peacock Class will be recapping key historical events and periods which they have studied previously to help them place World War I on a timeline. This will help to develop our understanding of chronology and talk about events which came before and after.
